GLEN ROSE – While TOUR pros were honing in their wedges and short irons at Augusta National Golf Club in preparations for Masters weekend, some 992 miles west the Glen Rose golf teams were in pursuit of a Regional Tournament bid at Squaw Valley Golf Course.
The Lady Tigers entered day two of the tournament trailing first-place Brock by 20 strokes after their 443-team total posted Friday afternoon at Canyon West GC. Coach Erik Hartman’s girls didn’t quite make up the deficit, but did manage to pickup seven strokes, fend off the Keene Lady Chargers and punch their ticket to the Regional Tournament to be held April 11-12 at Peach Tree in Bullard, TX.
Madison McKinney shaved 14 strokes off of her day-one score to card a team-low 89 and 192 two-day total. McKinney finished third overall, just eight strokes behind first-place Baily Wagner fof Brock (184) and four back of Emma Wood’s 188. Wood was also a member of the first place team from Brock that finished 13 strokes ahead of Glen Rose’s 857-team total.
Bailey Brown finished second for the Lady Tigers with a 213, Madison Wooten a 220, Claire Boswell carded a 234 and Caroline Kickhoefer rounded out the tournament with her 236.
The Tigers entered the second day of the 11-3A tournament needing to play well enough to makeup 11 strokes on Brock’s second place team. The Eagles entered two full teams into the district tournament and both moved on to the Regional Tournament after Glen Rose was unable to recover on its home course.
Seniors Jaden Morris and Jared Brandt both qualified as individuals for the April 11-12 Regional Tournament at Oak Hurst in Bullard, TX.
