The Somervell County Commissioners Court took care of some routine business in their special session Monday, cutting three checks and making some salary adjustments needed for the proposed new budget.

Next, commissioners will have one more budget workshop, followed a week later by their final vote on the proposed tax rate and budget.

The final budget workshop is set for 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11. The regular September meeting of the Commissioners Court will be that morning starting at 9:30.

Then on Monday, Sept. 18, the commissioners will vote on the overall budget for the fiscal year that runs from Oct. 1, 2017, through Sept. 30, 2018, and the tax rate.

County auditor Brian Watts said previously that the proposed tax rate of .46159 (per $100 of tax valuation), if approved by the final vote, would mean no change in county taxes.

Monday’s business included cutting a check to cover the cost of roofing being done at Squaw Valley Golf Course, which is owned by the county. The new roofing is for the pavilion and the golf cart shop.

The budget adjustments done in Monday’s meeting were for the Sheriff’s Office for “salary line items that we needed to adjust to get payroll through the end of the year,” Watts said.
