The votes are dripping in, little by little — but that’s not unexpected for a Constitutional Amendment Election.
The early voting period was winding down this week at the Somervell County Annex Building, prior to Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 7. As of the close of the day Tuesday, only 56 votes had been cast, according to Somervell County Election Administrator Christy Covey.
“It’s slow,” Covey said, adding that it’s not unusual. “Constitutional Amendment elections are known to have lower voter turnout than the primary election.”
Covey said only 345 Somervell residents voted early in the two-week period leading up to the last election that featured only Constitutional amendments, in November 2015.
Today is the final day for early voting, starting at 8 .m. and ending at 5 p.m.
Election Day is Tuesday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., as the voting location moves exclusively to the Somervell County Expo Center.
The seven proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution are on the ballot, which can be seen online at www.votetexas.gov.
