Hill Country Community Action Association has applications at the Somervell County Citizens Center to see if you qualify for the installation of weatherization materials to your home. Our drivers are available to provide transportation to senior citizens locally. Today (Friday) you can go grocery shopping after 1 pm. Just call the Center to add your name to the list. The driver will give you a package with forms to fill out, sign and return to determine if you are eligible for free transportation. Do you need a ride to the Center? Again, call the Center before 10 a.m. to request a ride. As always, donations are welcomed.
The Center will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19 for President’s Day. But gospel music led by Paul Trotter will be there for your entertainment at 6 p.m. at the Center. Bring a dish for “pot luck,” and join us for singing, clapping and joyous celebration.
Do you enjoy playing 42? Our 42 tournament starts at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Come join other competitive players at the Center. If you need some practice, you can come by the Center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and practice with other 42 players. Or you’ll be able to partner up with others for any game of dominoes. And don’t forget, we have Bunco on Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 9:30 to 11:30.
Our celebration of February birthdays will be Wednesday, Feb. 28. Margie is our entertainer, playing her keyboard and singing. She loves for anyone to join in, so come and add your voice to sing familiar songs. Our lunch at noon will star pot roast and birthday cake (with sprinkles)! Please call the Center to add your name to the lunch list. Our cook, Judy, prepares lunches for an estimated number of people who include our “regulars” and those who call in. So if you plan to eat with us, please call before 10 am.
Our Center is located at 209 SW Barnard and the phone number is 254-897-2139. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Meals eaten at the Center for those 60 and over: donations are appreciated; citizens under 60 years of age: $5.50; take-out meals: $5.50 Drink and dessert are included.

Wednesday, Feb. 21 — Fried fish, pinto beans, cole slaw, hushpuppies, cookies.
Thursday, Feb. 22 — Pork posole, garden salad, cornbread, brownies.
Friday, Feb. 23 — Spaghetti with meat sauce, zucchini and tomatoes, garden salad, garlic toast, peaches.
