The Glen Rose High School Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended the Region II FCCLA Leadership Conference in Waco Feb. 22-24, and five of the six teams advanced to the state competition that will be in April.

Fourteen GRHS FCCLA chapter members were among 1,200 delegates and advisors attending the conference, which was organized by the Region II FCCLA officers.

The meeting featured a series of specialized leadership tracks and general sessions in which members discovered ways to become actively involved in issues facing today’s youth.
Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) are competitive events in which members participated at the regional meeting. These events allowed members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competition.
GRHS teams that competed in Waco and qualified for state were:

First place: Laney Whitefield, Junior Entrepreneurship.

First place: Richard Sanford, Senior Applied Math for Culinary Management.

Second place: Alexandria Sanchez, Advocacy Occupational.

Fourth place: Marissa Beaman, Career Investigation.

Fourth place: Abby Payne and Jordin Voss, Senior Focus on Children.

Lilia Juarez was elected to serve as Region II Vice President of Competitive Events during the House of Delegates meeting. We are so proud of Lilia and look forward to the upcoming year as she serves the Region.

Kelly Boyd served as our Chapter Voting Delegate for the House of Delegates meeting.

Senior Chapter Member Ashley Hang, recipient of the 2017 Kikkoman Japanese Exchange Program Scholarship, served as a student evaluator for the conference.

Our chapter would like to thank all of those who helped and supported our students as they prepared for competition. We would also like to thank Mrs. Elsa Hill and Jill Evans for serving as a chaperone for the Region II event, as well as, Lynn Boyles and Mary Lou Wort for volunteering to serve as an evaluator for the conference.
