Soda shop offers sweet treats and shopping
Shoo-fly old-fashioned soda shop located on the square in downtown Glen Rose was given a makeover by the new owners over the past year.
Jerry Stone and his family took over the shop last summer and wanted to bring back the original look and feel of a soda shop as well as bring in some new ideas.
“We have made changes and got the original soda fountain working again. We really wanted that to be the draw, “ said Stone.
The shop serves old-fashioned sodas, shakes, malts, sundaes, banana splits, brownie fudge sundaes, with plenty of toppings. If you don’t see it on the menu ask a soda jerk to make it just the way you want it. Bottled Dr Pepper is also available.
Stone and his family wanted the business to attract locals as well as tourists of all ages. Once inside you are transported back in time. There is music from the 50s and 60s era that has people dancing at times.
“We have had people get up and move tables to dance and we encourage that,” said Stone.
“I love the music playing while I am enjoying my ice cream and I can dance while shopping. It’s my first time here and I will be back,” said Sheri Smith.
Stone and his family have had other successful retail businesses in the area and decided to combine all of that knowledge and ideas into one place. Jerry’s wife Tammi has added her touch with unique merchandise for visitors.
The Stones also have two college students and students from Glen Rose High School working in the store.
