Linda James abruptly resigned from the Glen Rose City Council Monday night during a special called meeting.

The reason for James' sudden departure remains a mystery.

City Secretary Terri Johnson, City Administrator Michael Leamons and council member Chris Byrant declined to comment on why the resignation took place.

Johnny Martin was appointed to replace James for the remainder of her term.

“He will be a great fit right now and I would like to see him run officially in the next election,” said Bryant.

The council also made Leamons the official city administrator, and he will continue as acting manager of Oak Dale Park.

There is a supplemental clause in the contract that if Leamons or the city council decides there needs to be a change in the position at Oakdale Park action may be taken.

“I feel really good about this move for right now. Leamons demonstrated great leadership when he helped us through a really busy time not only at Oakdale Park but also during the election,” said Bryant.

“I am grateful to be able to serve in both capacities and I have the sincerest desire to advance the interests of the citizens and serve the elected officials,” said Leamons.
