Glen Rose is a travel star this month with a major feature in Texas Highways, the travel magazine of Texas, and a TV commercial.
Texas Highways devoted a spread to Glen Rose in its July issue that has just hit store shelves and mailboxes.
Titled “Paluxy Deluxe,” the story begins with “Dinosaurs left their footprints here. Now, make your own tracks to Glen Rose.”
The writer, Leslie Vandiver, said she’d had Glen Rose on her “wish list” of places to visit for a long time, especially after she discovered a family tie with Barnard’s Mill.
Local attractions, restaurants and lodging mentioned in the feature included Dinosaur Valley State Park, Dinosaur World, Barnard’s Mill & Art Museum, Hollywood & Vine, Riverhouse Grill and Country Woods Inn.
In March a film crew converged on the Comfort Inn Hotel & Suites to shoot a commercial featuring the hotel and Glen Rose as a choice destination. Hotel Manager Nick Patel had mentioned to the Choice Hotels that Glen Rose was an international tourist destination for its dinosaur tracks. (Independent franchisees of Choice Hotels International individually own and operate Comfort Inn and other hotel properties.)
When Choice Hotels was getting ready to film summer commercials, it decided to feature the Comfort Inn and Glen Rose in the commercials about hotels located in destination areas.
Most of the shooting took place outside the hotel. Then the film crew moved to Dinosaur Valley State Park to shoot part of the commercial there.
The commercial is being shown online as well as on television, putting Glen Rose before an international audience.
