The Glen Rose-Somervell County Relay For Life Committee held its wrap-up meeting at the Heritage Park Pavilion on Wednesday, May 21 to celebrate another successful event.
Refreshments were served to approximately 50 Relay participants who came out to hear the results of this year’s event and witness several awards presented to various teams and individuals.
Relay for Life co-chairs Paula Noell and Linda Rowe welcomed the 2008 planning committee and presented this year’s awards.
Committee awards were given to Best Value Pharmacy for the best decorated camp site, Crystal Plaster of State Farm Insurance for the most spirited team, and Team Nix/Linda Nix for the most original camp site.
Most laps walked by an individual was awarded to Jessica Lopez for walking 30 quarter-mile laps. The most money raised by a team went to the Glen Rose Medical Center Dream Walkers. The runner-up award for most money raised went to The Team from First Financial Bank of Glen Rose. Third place most money raised went to the Crystal Plaster State Farm Insurance Team.
The top five individual money raisers were Ginger Gatewood, Marilyn Phillips, Patricia West, Shelley Lumpkins and Audrey Caylor.
A special award was given to Nate Burgess for the amazing feat of walking and running 241 one-quarter mile laps. Nate was a member of the team from Wiley’s Flower Shop, of which Patricia West served as team captain.
Also announced at the wrap-up party and awards presentation ceremony was that more than $64,000 in donations has been turned in so far. Money will be accepted until the end of July, at which time the grand total for this year’s Relay For Life will be announced.
