Brenda Gay Kiernan, 49, of Granbury, is being held in Somervell County Jail on a $1 bond for allegedly murdering her mother at her home in Pecan Plantation.

Kiernan originally called police at approximately 6 p.m. on Oct. 20 and told them she had found her mother dead at the Granbury gated community, media outlets reported.

Investigators determined that Kiernanís 72-year-old mother Natha Hudson had died days before authorities were called, Hood County chief deputy George Temple told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He said that it was not known how long Hudson had been dead.

Kiernan later confessed to murdering her mother during an interview with investigators, Temple said. A preliminary autopsy report lists the cause of Hudsonís death as a gunshot wound, created by a .39-caliber handgun, to the back of the head, Temple said.
