The Somervell county Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a roofing scam that has crept its way into the county.

Lt. Anders Dahl said so far one victim has come forward to say they were taken by the scammers.

A press release from Sheriff Greg Doyle recommends residents check out any company they don’t recognize. Ask for references then follow up by calling and talking to several on the list.

Carefully read and inspect all business paperwork and contracts. Check out any Web sites listed and call to verify any listed phone numbers.

The release states many scammers will perform minimal work before demanding more money. Be sure to check the companies standing with the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org. The Glen Rose Chamber of Commerce can verify companies claiming to be local.

Finally, if a conflict occurs with a contract company, contact the sheriff’s office at 897-2242.
