Last weekend's first-ever Professional Armed Forces Rodeo Association finals held in Glen Rose drew several hundred people to three Saturday and Sunday performances — and not all of them wore the usual cowboy hats, boots and jeans.
Many of those watching the bull riders and barrel racers sported combat fatigues or veterans jackets. And many of the contestants were retired or active-duty military personnel on leave from tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.Named to the men's all-around best contestant was Travis Beck, while Val Barker won the women's all-around best.
This was the first year the association held its own finals. In the past the group has worked its finals into the rodeo schedule at the Fort Worth Stockyards, but this was the first year the association has come to Glen Rose.
