Special to The Reporter

If you have never been married and are between the ages of 13 and 18, applications are now being accepted for the title of 2010 “Miss Teen Glen Rose.” Miss Teen Glen Rose will represent her area at the Miss Texas International Pageant to be held at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Antonio March 26-28, 2010. The young woman ultimately selected as “Miss Teen Glen Rose” will become an ambassador from the Somervell County area and receive an official title and sash.

The young lady crowned Miss Teen Texas will receive a scholarship and prize package valued at more than $15,000 and the opportunity to represent Texas at the 2010 Miss Teen International Pageant in Chicago next July.

The American Heart Association is the official charity of the Miss Teen Texas International Pageant. In 2008, the International Pageant System joined the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement to wipe out heart disease - the No. 1 killer of women. Miss Teen Texas will champion heart disease, in addition to promoting her own platform, during her reign. Our passion is to unite women in this fight…even at an early age. Our involvement in the movement can help save lives. For more information, visit www.GoRedForWomen.org.

The current reigning “2009” Miss Teen Texas is Dymond Hayes of Tomball. Hayes has dedicated her reign to raising awareness of Breast Cancer through the Susan G. Komen Association, for which she is a national junior spokesperson. Hayes lost both of her grandmothers to breast cancer and her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. These events prompted her to seek ways that she could make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

“It started with a team of 10 of my closest friends raising money in The Walk for a Cure,” said Hayes.

As Miss Teen Texas, she now speaks to local groups about her experience, offers support and encourages women to seek early detection. For more information on breast cancer and the Susan G. Komen Foundation, visit www.komen.org. October is national Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Teen contestants will compete in personal interview, fitness wear, fun fashion wear and evening gown.
