Brookshire Brothers purchase Davids Supermarkets
An employee-owned company purchases the assets of a 50-year-old family owned supermarket chain out of North Central Texas. Brookshire Brothers acquired 25 David's retail locations on Friday. Principals in the transaction included Robert Waldrip of David's and Brookshire Brothers President and CEO Jerry Johnson, both seated, and Brookshire Brothers COO John Alston, David's Charles Waldrip and Brookshire Brothers CFO Clay Oliver.

David's Supermarket No. 26, located at 205 Austin Road in Glen Rose, is one of nine that will continue to fly the David's banner, according to Sally Alvis, director of public relations and business development for Brookshire Brothers, Inc.

With the stroke of a pen Friday, April 4, Brookshire Brothers acquired the assets of a family-owned company with similar core values. Grandview-based David’s Supermarkets was formerly owned by the Waldrip family, which operated stores in dozens of small towns throughout North Central Texas for 50 years.
“The Waldrip family serves communities similar to those we serve," Brookshire Brothers President and CEO Jerry Johnson said following the closing of the business deal. "Their values align with ours. We understand their customers.”
