Miss Teen Somervell will represent the county at the Miss Teen Texas Pageant at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Antonio from March 20-22. She will receive an official title and sash for the contest.
If Miss Teen Somervell County is crowned as Miss Teen Texas, she will also receive a scholarship and prize package valued at more than $15,000. She will go on to represent Texas during the 2009 Miss Teen International Pageant.
Teen contestants will compete via interviews, fitness and fun fashion wear, and in evening gown categories. There is no talent portion or swimsuit competition. Contestants need no previous pageant experience.
Hilary Elizondo of Corpus Christi is the 2008 Miss Teen Texas. She is a national spokesperson for DoSomething.org. Elizondo uses her position to speak to youth and teens about their power to make a difference. She hopes to inspire a “generation of doers.”
DoSomething.org provides teens the tools and resources for youth to convert their ideas and energy into positive action.
This year’s winner will also be charged with keeping heart disease awareness on the national forefront.
In 2008, International Pageants joined the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women program. Each state titleholder will promote heart disease awareness in addition to her own platform throughout her reigning year.
Go Red for Women brings together the collective energy of women to wipe out heart disease, which is the number one killer of women. More information can be found at www.GoRedForWomen.org.
