The Somervell County Sheriff’s Department has identified three suspects it said broke into the Somervell County Expo Center over the Memorial Day weekend and stole thousands of dollars of merchandise from vendors.

“We have confessions from all three,” said Derrell McCravey, the department’s chief deputy. The men are 19 and 20 years old, he said.

The suspects entered the Expo through a door that had inadvertently been left unlocked after the Expo Center had closed, McCravey said. The thieves stole an estimated $4,000 worth of ropes, saddle blankets and other merchandise sold by vendors set up for a roping event.

Two of the suspects are from Graham and one is from Childress. They had been contestants at previous events at the Expo and knew their way around, McCravey said.

Warrant have been issued and the suspects will be arrested this week, McCravey said. The men face charges of burglary of a building.
