Downtown property owners packed the Somervell County Commissioners courtroom Monday to show a “united front” about their concerns over new property valuations that have risen as high as almost 500 percent.
Even though the county government does not set the valuations – the Central Appraisal District does – the commissioners set the annual county tax rate. That’s why the property owners decided to speak during the part of the meeting reserved for citizen comments.
