Special to the Reporter

The Somervell County Cancer Support Group will host speaker Katherine Lawrence of the Washington, D.C.-based non-profit Cancer Project at 6 p.m., Monday, July 5, in the Glen Rose Medical Center conference room.

Lawrence will explain the body of evidence accumulating on diet's influence on cancer. The Cancer Project teaches participants to make delicious meals that can help prevent cancer, increase survival odds and reduce the chance of recurrence.

The program will begin with a short video on nutrition. Lawrence also will demonstrate several recipes, with participants enjoying the food while they discuss food-related topics.

In addition to a full-meal, participants also will receive recipes, nutrition handouts and support resources.

The program is free, but donations are appreciated to help it continue.

Pre-registration is required. Please contact Patricia West at 897-4500 or Alice Lance at 682-552-2705 if you plan to attend. Registration is limited to the first 40 persons. The deadline to pre-register is Friday, July 2.
