Special to the Reporter
The deadline is fast approaching to register for the Dino Dash race and festival, which honors the late high school Spanish teacher Lisa Schmidt and will raise money for Glen Rose High School student scholarships.
The Lisa Schmidt Foundation, which was established as a memorial for Schmidt, is sponsoring the event.
“Schmidt gave so much of herself to children that she saw in need of her help,” according to the foundation. “We hope to continue her work by providing means for students to attend college as well as helping to improve the existing ESL programs within the district.”
The races are a 5K and a half-marathon to be held on Saturday, June 5. The deadline to sign up at a discounted price is April 15.
Race times start at 8:30 a.m. for the 5K and 8 a.m. for the half-marathon. Awards will be given for runners in different age groups. All half-marathon finishers will receive a medal.
The festival will be held on the practice field at the high school’s south end from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will include live music, horse shoes, washers and bean bag tournaments, a Jump-House, balloon artist, teacher dunk booth and other activities for children, and food and vendor booths.
Race registration before April 15 costs $30 for the half-marathon, $15 for the 5K and $10 for students. Registration after April 15 goes up to $40 for the half-marathon, $25 for the 5K and $15 for students. Runners also can register on race day.
The packet pick-up location is Stumpblaster Bicycles, 502 S.W. Barnard St.
