Special to the Reporter
Well, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but here at the Citizens Center we’re busy getting up the Christmas decorations. We’ll be having our Christmas lunch on Wednesday, Dec, 8, at noon and our annual Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. Call or come by the center to sign-up for either or both.
The Christmas party is free and is for all Somervell County residents 60 or over. We’ll be serving Christmas dinner with entertainment by local band Truman Hudson and Riggin and Margie Hartsfield. There will door prizes and lots of fun, so you won’t want to miss it.
We have scheduled some other Christmas activities in December, including Christmas caroling to some of our homebound folks on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m., a drive around the county to see the Christmas lights on Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. and a cookie swap on Dec. 3 at 11 a.m.
For the cookie swap, everyone who signs up will bring a half-dozen homemade cookies for each other person who has signed up. So if 12 sign-up, you bring six dozen of the same cookies and go home with six dozen assorted cookies. It’s a fun way to taste and learn new cookie recipes. You can call or come by the center to sign-up for all of our activities.
We had a great turnout for our Thanksgiving lunch last week with over 100 in attendance and more than 20 take-out orders. A big “thank you” to our kitchen staff, Judy Ward, Stella Marlow and Angie Dally.
The ladies (and one man) enjoyed the shopping trip to Sam Moon this past weekend. We shopped for a couple hours and then enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Macaroni Grill. I’m sure we will go again, so we’ll keep you posted.
The winners of last week’s “42” tournament were: Veda Gosdin and Nancy Moore won first place, Floyd Flanary and Dortha Beck took second, Roy Mercer and James Kelley took third and Zula Hunter and Cora Harkins came in fourth. Congratulations, players. Others playing in the tournament were: Eddie and Billie Flanary, Loveda Swaim and Grady May, Janelle Gartrell and Alice Lance, Dorothy Jo Osborn and Ila Verne Stull, Patsy Thompson and Roger Jordan and Trey Welch and Ann Parham.
Activities at the Citizens Center beginning Nov. 22 are; “42,” exercise, Wii bowling and chess on Monday; “42, ceramics and needlework on Tuesday; “42,” Bunco tournament, scrapbooking, and November birthday celebration on Wednesday, and we will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, “42” and visiting going on every day.
The center will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 25 and 26. We will re-open on Monday, Nov. 29, at 8:30 a.m. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday!
Remember, you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. Come join us.
