The week of May 10 is national Nursing Home Week. To celebrate, two area nursing homes will be hosting separate events all week.

Events at Cherokee Rose will start on Mother’s Day, May 10 with special activities to honor the youngest and oldest mothers among staff and residents.

Monday is 1950s Day with Bingo games, a sock hop, hula-hoops and an Elvis impersonator.

Hawaiian Day is Tuesday. Residents will be treated to Piña Coladas and a Laou feast at lunch.

Carnival Day will be Wednesday and residents will don their silliest shirt or hat. They will also play darts, toss pies and visit with a palm reader. Corn dogs and French fries will be served at lunch.

Pets get in on the action Thursday for Pet Day. Home dogs will be dressed in their Sunday best and parade through the facility. Residents will also take a trip to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.

Sports Day will round out the week on Friday. Baseball, horseshoes, golf and soccer contests are planned. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served at lunch.

The public is invited to attend any of the activities.

Glen Rose Medical Center Nursing Home is also holding festivities starting May 11, with a day in Mexico. Fiesta crafts, Bingo Margaritas and a feature movie are scheduled for the day.

Tuesday is a Day at Sea with Casino style games and Apple martinis.

Residents visit Hawaii Wednesday. Hawaiian Bingo and a beach party with Piña Coladas are set for the day.

Mike Ray Hartman will entertain residents for another Day at Sea, Thursday evening. There will also be a cookout and silent auction.

Friday highlights Italy and features a pizza dough throwing contest and ends with a pizza party where residents can make their own pizza.
