Patriotic pride will be alive in downtown Glen Rose Thursday. The Somervell County Republican Club is hosting a nonpartisan political rally on the square with one thing in mind.

"The whole point is to get out the vote," Fran Thomas, Republican club vice-president, said.

The event, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m., will include patriotic music, readings and more.

"American Legion Post 462 and Boy Scout Troop 725 will perform our flag ceremony," Thomas said. "Glen Rose resident Tom D'Amico, a former state department member, will speak on the privilege of living and voting in the USA, Melissa Busch will sing America the Beautiful, Steven Collins will sing the National Anthem and 'Two Bits,' Aaron Cranford will cheer for voting."

Local pastors Randy Mac, Dennis Moore and Mary Mercer will also participate in the event by leading attendees in song and prayer, and other speakers will address voting rights.

"We hope everyone will come out and join us and celebrate being an American and our right to vote," Thomas said.
