GLEN ROSE—A private service for Josephine Gabaldon Bybee was held at Greenwood Memorial Park. Josephine went peacefully to be with the Lord after a long battle with illness.
Josephine was born in the Monticello Canyon ranching area of New Mexico. She was the youngest daughter of Mercedes and Marcos Gabaldon. Siblings included brothers, Elfego, Marcos, Martin; and sisters, Virginia and Gladys.
In 1962, Josephine married her husband, Burl Bybee. A native Texan, Burl initially brought her to the Lone Star State for a visit. However, the visit quickly turned permanent and they remained in Texas for more than 50 years, bringing up four children. In 1989, Josephine became a grandmother for the first time, which brought her much joy. In the years to follow, three additional grandchildren and two great grandchildren were her blessings.
A dedicated and loving homemaker, Josephine was a godly woman who put family first and ran a very traditional household. An avid athlete, Josephine encouraged her children to participate in all sports. Most summer days you would find the neighborhood kids at the Bybee household playing ball, riding bikes or heading to the swimming pool.
Her loving touch will live on through the traditions she created and the beautiful gardens she planted. She enjoyed celebrating the holidays and special occasions with loved ones. Hayrides, cookie baking, bingo, karaoke and dancing were annual family favorites. From the fruit trees, to the roses, to the lilies, all served as gentle reminders of her time here on earth. She also enjoyed drawing, reading, gardening, fishing and eating snow cones with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved nothing more than making delicious homemade sopapillas with honey, for her little mijas and mijo.
A loving wife and mother with a gentle and quiet spirit, she will be cherished now and forever by her family. The following passage best describes her life: Proverbs 31:28: Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also praises her.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Burl Bybee; children, Susan Bybee McCoun and husband, Jimmie; Tony Bybee and wife, Kristin Calfee; Patricia Bybee Alatorre and husband, Cesar; Jo Anna Bybee and Chris Ortega; grandchildren, Angelica Jesstine Norman, Torey Rae Bybee, Taylor Rae Bybee and Sophie Satterwhite Bybee; great-grandchildren, Wesson Kase Smith and Tynlee Wren Smith.
