GLEN ROSE — Gilbert Bryan Phenix, 85, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, in Glen Rose. Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Hamlin Cemetery East in Hamlin.
Bryan Phenix was born to Carl and Vera Phenix, Sept. 23, 1923, in Westbrook, Texas in Mitchell County. At an early age he moved with his family to Hamlin, Texas. His entire education was obtained from the Hamlin schools and he graduated in 1941. On Sept. 16, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His tour of duty was spent in California and the South Pacific. He was sent back to the states and honorably discharged on October 17, 1945. He then began his career with Shell Pipe Line Corporation at Hamlin Station on October 29, 1945. On June 9, 1951, he married Loyce Richardson and they had a daughter, Cynthia Ann, born March 22, 1952. During his working years with Shell, he worked at many different assignments and in many different locations. In August 1984, he retired with 39 years service. Since that time he has enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spending time in the Rio Grande Valley. His parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Loyce; daughter, Cindy Richardson and husband, Randy, all of Glen Rose; and sister, Hortense Harden of Granbury.
