GLEN ROSE – Roy Clarence Backues, 57, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth.
Mr. Backues was born April 15, 1951, to Clarence James Backues and Madge Marie Gillispie in Vienna, Miss. He was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War with the 609th Transport Company. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, two Oversea Service Bars and 1st Oak Leaf Cluster. After his discharge, Roy held supervisory positions with several manufacturing companies. Roy was also a musician and highly skilled in the repair of musical instruments. Recent illness forced his retirement from Glen Rose Music in Glen Rose.
Mr. Backues was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald Backues, and a sister, Emma Tomson.
Survivors include daughters, Virginia (Ginny) Tomas of What Cheer, Iowa, and Kelly Lynn Jurgle of Jefferson City, Mo.; son, Robert James Backues of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Amy Gunnufson of Bladwin, Mo., and Marylnn Holland of Oceanside, Calif.; brothers, Martin Backues of Linn, Mo., Sam Backues of Linn, Mo., Harold Backues of Fulton, Mo., and Neal Backues of Glen Rose; and nine grandchildren.
