Glen Rose High School’s 2016-2017 Tiger Excellence Awards were presented for each sport Monday night during the annual sports banquet, held at the Stonewater Church building north of Glen Rose on Highway 144.
Some of the selections were made by the respective head coaches, and others were voted on by their teammates, GRHS Athletic Director Cliff Watkins said.
The banquet is organized by the Glen Rose Athletic Booster Club.
While the awards are for individual excellence in sports, that success often comes as a result of teamwork, Watkins noted.
“I was very proud of all of the athletes,” Watkins said. “We had a lot of great accomplishments by a bunch of teams, and we were able to honor these individuals. A lot of the accolades come from having successful teams.
“I’m very proud of the way our athletes conducted themselves on and off the field of play, with good sportsmanship. That’s another thing that makes Glen Rose such a great place.”
