Glen Rose qualified for the Division II Texas 7 on 7 state championship tournament at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex at College Station, which began yesterday.
The Glen Rose team, coached by David Halcom, qualified with a 48-14 victory over Grandview last Friday in the State Qualifying Tournament in Brownwood. Glen Rose also defeated Johnson City and Snyder in the Brownwood event, and lost to Brock.
Halcom said that the Glen Rose team has 20 players eligible to participate.
In pool play at the state tournament, Glen Rose was scheduled to play three times on June 29, against Lexington, Canton and Cuero. Pool play win-loss records will determine whether each school moves into the championship bracket or consolation bracket today (Friday, June 30).
The top two teams in each pool advance to the championship bracket (starting at 9 a.m.) and the third- and fourth-place teams move into the consolation bracket (starting at 8 a.m.).
Both the Division I (Class 5A and 6A schools, plus TAPPS Division I) and Division II (Class 4A and below, including all other private schools) have 64 entries divided into 16 four-team pools.
