The Glen Rose High School girls cross country team posted its second straight team championship on Sept. 7 at the Glen Rose Invitational Meet held at Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glen Rose.
The Lady Tigers had won the Hillsboro meet on Sept. 1, led by freshman twin sisters Jocelyn Mims in second place and Alexis Mims, who finished third.
GRHS girls coach Ramsay Ghazal said his runners are coming on strong after working hard over the summer months. There are no seniors on the team, and only one junior - Laura Ogletree, who was a state qualifier as a freshman in 2015. That was before Glen Rose moved up from Class 3A to its current 4A level.
In the Glen Rose Invitational, the Lady Tigers prevailed over the 17-team field, edging out runner-up and Stephenville, which will be a district rival.
Jocelyn Mims won the individual title in Glen Rose, while Alexis Mims finished fifth. Also for the Lady Tigers in that meet, Laura Ogletree was 10th, Avery Turner was 11th, Liz Gutierrez was 23rd, America Gutierrez was 26th and Ashlyn Williams 55th.
The GRHS junior varsity girls also were outstanding, taking second place. Medalists for the JV girls were Bree Baker, fourth place, Nayeli Melendez, 10th, and Salma De Reza, 11th.
The Glen Rose varsity boys finished ninth out of the 17 teams at the Glen Rose Invitational. Their finishers were Orrin Miller, 14th; ￼Colby Pounds, 39th; Dristan Cathey, 43rd; Carson Osborne, 55th; and Mason Daniels, 108th.
The Glen Rose JV boys took seventh place. The 7th grade boys were sixth in their division.

The varsity girls finished ahead of Class 6A school Desoto in taking the team trophy. After Jocelyn and Alexis Mims in second and third place, next for the Lady Tigers were: Avery Turner, 7th; Laura Ogletree, 8th; America Gutierrez, 18th; Liz Gutierrez, 26th; and Ashlyn Williams, 66th.
For the varsity boys in that meet, Orrin Miller was 15th; Dristan Cathey was 41st; Colby Pounds was 43rd; and Carson Osborne was 64th. For the JV boys, Mason Daniels was 40th.
The JV girls won their division title. JV individual results were, Salma De Reza, sixth place; Bree Baker, 7th; Nayeli Melendez, 9th; Kora Dodson, 22nd; Emma Sheffield, 54th; Sydney Lozier, 63rd; and Addison Barber Williams, 64th.
The GRHS boys and girls teams competed Wednesday in the Hico Bluebonnet Invitational Cross Country Meet. Their next meet is set for Sept. 20 at the Lake Whitney Country Club.
