Make that three consecutive team titles for the Glen Rose High School girls cross country team.
The Lady Tigers captured their third consecutive team title last Wednesday at the Hico meet held at Bluebonnet Country Club on a 3,200-meter course.
The Lady Tigers were led by the twin sister combination of Jocelyn Mims (12:50.9) and Alexis Mims (13:38.7) with a one-two finish, respectively, as the girls team out-scored the runner-up school by 82 points.
The GRHS varsity boys earned fifth place at that meet on a 5,000-meter course with ninth-place Colby Pounds (18:36.4) and 15th-place Orrin Miller (18:45.18) breaking 19 minutes and medaling.
“We thought we were one of the better teams there. We ran and proved that,” GRHS girls coach Ramsay Ghazal said, noting that seven Lady Tigers finished in the top 20.
Other finishers for the GRHS varsity girls included Avery Turner (13:54.38), 5th place; Laura Ogletree (14:03.83), 8th; Elizabeth Gutierrez (14:22.2), 14th; America Gutierrez (14:33.85)), 16th; Breanna Baker (14:42.81), 17th; and Ashlyn Williams (15:29.25), 30th.
The other varsity boys finishers for GRHS included Dristan Cathey (19:39.54), 30th; Carson Osborne (20:08.75), 44th; and Mason Daniels (23:08.43), 85th.
The GRHS varsity boys as well as both the junior varsity girls and boys were scheduled to compete in the Whitney meet on Wednesday at Lake Whitney Country Club, but results were not available by deadline. That same day, the Lady Tigers varsity entered in the Metroplex Challenge at The Bluff Park in Haltom City to take on some bigger schools (Class 5A and 6A) and tougher competition.
“We’ve got to learn how to run in a big group, and to navigate in a big field,” Ghazal said.
Next week, the GRHS teams will be competing on Saturday, Sept. 30, in the McNeil Invitational at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
