GLEN ROSE — The Glen Rose Lady Tigers will open the 2017 volleyball playoffs with Benbrook Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Joshua High School riding a six-match winning streak.
The Lady Bobcats (23-17) tied for third place with Castleberry in District 7-4A, but lost to Castleberry in a tie-breaker game Friday to draw the Lady Tigers in the first round.
The Lady Tigers and Lady Bobcats each played Kennedale, Alvarado, Springtown, China Spring and Tolar during the regular season and Benbrook went 2-6 against those teams, while Glen Rose went 6-0.
No. 3 Glen Rose (43-1, 12-0) wrapped up the undefeated District 8-4A championship for the second straight year with a 25-12, 20-25, 20-25, 25-13, 15-13 victory over No. 4 Midlothian Heritage last Tuesday.
Glen Rose’s only loss of the season of the regular season was a 3-1 nondistrict setback to Class 3A No. 2 Callisburg (35-3) on Oct. 3 in Carrollton.
Should the Lady Tigers beat Benbrook, they will play the winner of Brownwood (12-16) and Vernon (16-20) later in the week. Time, date, site are TBD.
In their 2016 playoff run, the Lady Tigers beat Mineral Wells (3-0); Brownwood (3-0); Burkburnett (3-1); and Monahans (3-0) before falling to eventual Class 4A champion Bushland (3-1) in the regional final in Snyder, Texas. Glen Rose finished the 2016 season 40-4.
