The Glen Rose High School varsity girls basketball team looked sharp on defense in its first scrimmage before the start of the 2017-2018 season, according to head coach Ramsay Ghazal.

The Lady Tigers competed at Hico Monday and outscored the Class 2A squad in all four quarters.

“I thought we played pretty good defense. We only had one quarter where they were kind of competitive,” Ghazal said. “For the most part of it, we played great defense. We talked about getting a hand up on their shooters. The points we gave up were tough, contested shots.”

The Lady Tigers struggled at times with their outside shooting, missing all eight 3-point attempts they had in the third quearter.

One key member of the GRHS team, Presley Grace, came out of the scrimmage with a knee problem of unknown extent, and was scheduled to see a doctor at some point during the week.

Currently there are nine players on the varsity roster, but three others are still involved in volleyball and will join the team when their season is over.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers are slated to have a three-way scrimmage at home in Tiger Arena against Dublin and Huckabay, starting at 9 a.m.

The regular-season schedule is set to begin Saturday, Nov. 11, at Comanche, with the junior varsity game at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:15 p.m.
