Both the Glen Rose girls and boys varsity teams swept the team championships in the Glen Rose Invitational Powerlifting Invitational Meet held Feb. 8 in the GRHS Red Gym. The Tigers were led by senior Dillon Graves, who earned the trophy as the meet’s Boys Outstanding Lifter and set two school records in winning the 132-pound weight class.

The Lady Tigers won the girls division with 33 points, earning the first team title in the GRHS girls powerlifting program's history. Stephenville was runner-up with 28. The GRHS boys won the team title in their division with 39 points, while San Saba was second with 33.

There were 10 schools competing in the girls division and eight boys teams.

Terrry Harlin, who coaches the GRHS girls and boys along with Casey Alexander, said he was “very pleased” with how well the team competed.

“(I) thought several of our girls really took it to the next level in trying to reach their individual goals which ultimately helped us in the team standings,” Harlin stated. “Several school records were broken on both the boys and girls side. On the boys side, we had more than two full teams compete (23 boys lifters in all) and they all competed well, including a handful of kids who lifted in their first meet of the year.”

The next competition for the GRHS girls and boys will be Saturday at Stephenville High School.
