The Glen Rose High School baseball team opened District 8-4A play last Friday with a win over Venus, but fell to 16th-ranked Midlothian Heritage on Tuesday night at home.
Coach James Evanas’ Tigers, now 1-1 in district and 10-4 on the season, lost a 7-0 decision to Heritage, which had three pitchers combine on a two-hitter.
In the home win over Venus, the Tigers outhit the Bulldogs 11-2.
Jadon Harper was 2-for-4 with a double at the plate for the Tigers. Teammate Ashton Smith was 3-for-5 and drove in a run. Jett Gould was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Garrett Gilbreath was 2-for-4. Adrian Lewis had the other RBI for the Tigers.
Glen Rose won despite being charged with five errors, while Venus committed three.
The Tigers built a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning before the Bulldogs responded with two runs. Glen Rose added one in the top of the fourth and one in the seventh. The final run for Venus was in the sixth.
Against Heritage, Harper started on the mound and took the loss, working 3-2/3 innings He gave up two runs on six hits, while walking just one.
Coby Riley worked the next two innings and allowed five runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked two. Chance Hatfield pitched the final 1-1/3 frames, and did not allow a run. He gave up two hits, struck out two and walked one.
The two hits for the Tigers came from Tyler Torres and Connor Hansen.
The Tigers were scheduled to play Friday, March 23, at Alvarado. Their next game will be Tuesday at Godley (7:30 p.m.).
