The Glen Rose 9th grade red football team fell behind early and couldn’t catch up in a 30-8 loss to China Spring on Oct. 29.
The Cougars took advantage of good field position on two first quarter drives thanks to Tiger turnovers and jumped on top 14-0. Glen Rose moved the ball well offensively, but four turnovers were too much to overcome.
Bobby Guinn led the Tiger offensive efforts with 115 yards rushing. He added a two-point conversion after Curry Mates scored the only touchdown on an 11-yard reception.
Colton Bretton ran for 41 yards and passed for 34, Balke Eschbach had 14 yards rushing and 10 receiving, Xavier Bustos had a 13-yard catch, Jamie Ingram ran for six yards and Carter Brandt added four on the ground.
Defensively, Ingram and Austin Mapes each picked off China Spring passes and Josh Mena recovered a Cougar fumble.
Curry Mapes led Glen Rose in tackles with five, Brandt added four, Guinn, Eschbach, Mena, Keith McAnally and Marquis Holder all had three, Austin Gibson and Jared Thames each added two and Mapes, Ingram and Allan Overton all had one.
