It was quick and painless for the Glen Rose Lady Tigers as they polished off the visiting Rio Vista Lady Eagles 3-0 Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers jumped on top of the Eagles quickly by building a five-point lead at 15-10.
Glen Rose then went on to stretch its lead to seven at 19-12, but Rio Vista landed a kill shot to end the Glen Rose streak.
Over the next nine points, Rio Vista outscored the Lady Tigers 6-3 to bring the Lady Tiger lead to 22-19.
With the help of two Rio Vista mistakes over the final stretch, the Lady Tigers went on to victory in the game, 25-21.
In the second contest, Glen Rose jumped out to a 9-4 lead behind two kill shots each from Katy Irvin and Bridget Burns.
Rio Vista scored four of the next five points to bring the score to 10-8 in favor of Glen Rose.
Glen Rose, however, put the contest away behind the serving trio of Brielle Nicholson, Katie Uehlein and Dora Ibarra by outscoring the opponents 15-5 over the final portion of the match, taking the game 25-13. The final point coming on a kill shot from Burns.
Glen Rose trailed 8-4 to start the third set, but Ibarra connected on four straight serves to knot the score at 8-8.
After swapping points until the scoreboard read 11-11, Glen Rose outscored Rio Vista 6-1 to take a five-point advantage at 17-12.
The opponents split te next two points before Ashton Edwards did everything but seal the deal by connecting on her next six serves, including two aces, to extend the Lady Tiger advantage to 21-14.
Rio Vista put up a struggle, but after scoring three times, the Eagle server sent the ball into the net and the team back to Rio Vista with a loss.
The Lady Tigers were able to hold a lead in each game going into the stretch run.
“(Holding our lead) is very important,” said Glen Rose Head Coach Linda Waggoner. “We need to work on our serving. If we make our serves, then it makes it easier to get a lead. We are working on consistency all around”
The Lady Tigers will take the court again on Friday against Eastland with the freshmen and JV beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the Varsity immediately after.
