Walnut Springs struggled against Acquilla but had no problem knocking off Rapoport Academy in Class A Division II District 20 girls basketball action last week.
The Lady Hornets fell behind 39-17 by halftime and never got on track in a 62-32 loss to Aquilla on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Walnut Springs had only one player reach double figures as Brooke Townley netted 12 points to go with five steals. Shea Jones scored nine for the Lady Hornets, who shot just 22 percent from the field.
Friday, Jan. 22, went much better as WSHS buried Rapoport Academy 40-21. Defense was the key, especially in the first half when Rapoport tallied just seven points and the Lady Hornets built an 11-point lead that would only get larger as the night went on.
Shakota Billman tallied 13 points, seven steals and six rebounds, Jones scored nine for the second straight game and Townley, Denver Daughtry and Shadie Shadix scored six each. Daughtry also had eight rebounds and two steals, Townley stole the ball four times and Shadix collected seven boards and a pair of steals.
WS visited Morgan Tuesday and goes to Blum Friday.
