Glen Rose youth football action began last week with both the pee wee freshman and junior teams facing off with Maypearl.

The junior team led most of the way by a 6-2 margin before surrendering the game-winning score to fall 8-6 in a defensive struggle.

Junior Tiger coaches say they were pleased with the effort and cited the outstanding play of Ethan Hartman and Brennan cary who each had multiple tackles on defense while splitting time at quarterback on the other side of the ball.

The juniors have a bye this weekend and host Meridian at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 13.

Highlights of the week for the freshman team go to Westen Halcom with 10 tackles, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, Turner Slimp with a touchdown-saving tackle and Zackary Clark for returning a Maypearl kickoff.

The pee-wee cheerleaders supported the Tigers with their spirit all day. Junior cheerleaders of the week are Jillian Mercer and Bari Douglas. On the freshman squad, cheerleaders of the week are are Abby Johnson and Sarah Walton. Senior girls earning recognition are Courtney Cooper, Bryanna Lytle and Brittany Watson.
