Even with quarterback Colton Bretton having moved up to the varsity to help replace injured starter Frank Brandenburg, the Tigersí JV team was still too much for Hillsboro.
The Glen Rose defense pitched a shut out while Austin Gilbson rushed for one touchdown and passed for another in the 20-0 victory.
Gibsonís rushing TD was a one-yard plunge, his passing score a 25-yard toss to Hayden Bach. The QB also rushed for a 2-point conversion to make it 14-0 before Angelo Barrios rushed for a 10-yard TD that was set up by a 55-yard pass to Bach from Keith McAnally.
Leading the defensive effort in the shutout was Carter Brandt with six tackles and Logan Douglas, Jeremy Cates and Hunter Redmond with five each. Jack Payne and Austin Mapes each made four stops, McAnally and Gibson each had three and John Henry Powell added two. Senovio De La Garza, Dustin Stone, Jed Bridges, Colton Miller, Colton Bumpas, Donald Coffman, Nathan Smith and Omar Sanchez each had one tackle.
Gibson paced the offense with 79 yards passing and 76 yards rushing. His favorite target was Bach, who had four catches - three of them from Gibson - for 111 yards. Hunter Williams caught Gibsonís other completion and gained 20 yards.
The quarterback was the leading rusher for the Tigers, but plenty others contributed including Jed Bridges (33 yards), DeLaGarza (25), Billy Perez (21), Barrios (10), Cates (10), Carlin Linnaberry (8) and Colton Miller (5).
