A total of 64 two-person teams participated in Squaw Valley Golf Course’s annual Big Chill Golf Tournament last Friday, where bikes and toys were collected for Somervell County children for Christmas. The entry fee required golfers to donate toys or bikes and nearly 50 bikes were collected as well as a bunch of toys. They were delivered to Glen Rose schools on Monday, where they will find good homes for Christmas through the Angel Tree Program. “Knowing that so many kids will have a few more gifts under the tree this season makes us happy,” said Squaw Valley Golf Course Head Professional Steve Heppler on the course’s Facebook page. Somervell County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Kevin Seaton helps deliver toys from the Big Chill to Glen Rose Elementary School.
The Glen Rose Tiger Pride Band and the Voice of Glen Rose presented their Christmas Concert on Monday Night at the Glen Rose High School Auditorium. The Voice of Glen Rose sang such songs as “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Gloria in D Major,” “Laudamus Te” from Gloria, and “Carol of the Bells.” The GRHS Jazz Band played three songs, including “Jingle Bells,” and “Santa Baby,”, and the Varsity Band played three songs, including “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and Sleigh Ride.” The Voice of Glen Rose is directed by Samuel Teal and accompanied by Stephanie Anderson. The Jazz Band is directed by Nathaniel Boyer and the Tiger Pride Band is directed by Ray Portillo. The Glen Rose Junior High Band and Choir had their concert on Tuesday also at the GRHS Auditorium.
