Somervell County Commissioners discuss old jail renovations in special session

GLEN ROSE- Somervell County Judge Danny Chambers and County Attorney Trey Brown led the discussion during a recent special session of the Commissioners Court, where commissioners, except Precint 1's Jeff Harris, who was not in attendance, unanimously passed a motion, with four votes in favor, to renovate the old jail on Highway 67. In partnership with the Mckinstry building and maintenance group, the proposal would cap expenses at $500,000, addressing office space shortages and security concerns at the current County building.

Commissioners Court reviews pending event funds and grant issues

GLEN ROSE- At the recent Somervell County Commissioners Court meeting, Jennifer Webb, from Webb Roping Productions and Ultimate Calf Roping, addressed the court to clarify unpaid hosting fees and grant reimbursements related to their events held at the Somervell County Expo Center. The events in question included calf roping finals held in May 2023 and additional events in July and November.

County Commissioners approve three-year parking lease with Macias family pending Expo sale

GLEN ROSE- In a unanimous decision, except for an absent Commissioner of Precinct 1, Jeff Harris, the Somervell County Commissioners Court approved a temporary lease agreement allowing the Macias family to use the 4.53 acres near the Somervell County Expo Center for parking. The agreement, contingent on the potential sale of the Expo Center, will run from Jan.

Somervell County Commissioners Court discusses office space reallocation

GLEN ROSE- In the Somervell County Commissioners Court meeting, discussions centered around reallocating office space for County Commissioners, ultimately deciding to put incoming Commissioner of Precinct 3 Chip Joslin's office in the back of the annex, across from the judge's office. The conversation highlighted ongoing challenges with providing adequate workspace for officials while respecting the county's budget and historic preservation requirements.From the crowd, Joslin expressed concerns about finding a suitable office."What I don't want to do is continue what I feel to be a walking quorum," he stated, referencing the longstanding questions about the overlapping spaces of commissioners whose offices have shared doors and close quarters.
