On February 18-19, members of the Order of the Eastern Star from the surrounding area gathered at Glen Rose Chapter No. 171, O.E.S. for fun and fellowship as well as instruction on the Constitution and Ceremonies of the Order.

The fun began Wednesday night at the Glen Rose Masonic Lodge with a covered dish dinner followed with awards presented to Joyce Nicklas, who is the Worthy Grand Matron of Eastern Star in Texas. Somervell County Sheriff Greg Doyle presented Nicklas with an Honorary Deputy Sheriff Certificate. Glen Rose Mayor Pam Miller then presented Nicklas with a key to the city.

The Rose Assembly of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls conferred the Order of the Rose on Nicklas along with several distinguished members of the Eastern Star. After the presentations, everyone was entertained with music performed by Don and Teresa McCoy of the Unreal McCoys.

The membership began receiving instruction in the ceremonies of the Order and the Constitution from Nicklas, assisted by Dr. Leslie Keilberg, District Deputy Grand Matron, on Thursday morning.

Exams were also given to those members who wished to receive a certificate of proficiency given by Cheryl Albrecht, the Grand Examiner for District 3.

After the lunch break, the school continued until 2:30 p.m. When the school closed, members were seen downtown shopping and sightseeing.

At 5:30 p.m., a formal Banquet was hosted at the Somervell Citizenís Center by Glen Rose Chapter No. 171, O.E.S. The Somervell Citizenís Center staff catered the banquet.

Following the banquet, all members returned to the Glen Rose Masonic Lodge for a humanitarian program and joint fraternal visit from eight chapters of District 3, Section 10. The eight chapters consisted of Alvarado No. 656, Blum No. 931, Covington No. 1007, Glen Rose No. 171, Hillsboro No. 769, Rio Vista No. 343, Ruth No. 20 and Whitney #930.

During the two-day event, 40 chapters throughout the state of Texas were represented along with grand jurisdictions, Texas and California.

More than 40 proficiency exams were given and 90 members attended.
