The eighth grade boys track and field team from Glen Rose Junior High scored 56 points and finished fifth at the Cow Pasture Relays in Rio Vista last week.
John Henry Powell recorded one of the highest individual finishes for Glen Rose, placing second in the 110m hurdles, one of only two events the Tigers scored double-digit points in. Jake Betsill finished fifth, giving Glen Rose 10 points in the short hurdles race.
The Tigers scored 12 points for finishing third in the 4x400m relay (points are doubled for relay events). Runners included Betsill, Senovio Delagarza, Kevin Uehlein and David Barnes.
The Tigers' only other second-place finish came from Weston Clifton in the 800m run, adding eight points to the scorecard.
Uehlein, Delagarza, Barnes and Donald Coffman teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100m, good for eight points.
The Tigers scored six points in the high jump, where Powell took fourth and Coffman was fifth, and added five in the pole vault with Jed Bridges placing fourth and Kanyon McWilliams finishing sixth.
Glen Rose scored four points with a fifth-place finish in the 4x200m relay thanks to runners Nathan Smith, Angelo Barrios, Bridges and Delagarza.
The Tigers also scored four in both the 100m dash, where Coffman was fourth, and the 400m dash thanks to Barnes' fourth-place finish.
