Special to the Reporter

National Volunteer Week is from April 18-24 and we want to extend our gratitude to all the wonderful volunteers who give their time and talents at the center.

The center will host a seminar called “Adapting to Vision Changes” on Tuesday, April 27, at 12:45 p.m. Our speaker will be bringing samples of various adaptive equipment for those with low or no vision. She also will be providing information and assistance on how to acquire these items. If you or someone you know has vision problems, please join us. There will be door prizes during the seminar.

We will be celebrating an almost forgotten holiday this year on April 30. Anyone remember Arbor Day? We would like everyone to bring some plants or seeds to exchange that day. (Think Christmas cookie exchange.) Maybe you have some bulbs or plants that need thinning out, or some seeds from last year’s plantings, or you can bring new plants or seeds you would like to exchange. It should be a fun time and our yards and gardens will be all the more interesting and the air a little cleaner for it.

We have been enjoying the plays and musical performances at the Granbury Opera House and Cleburne Plaza this year and we have several new shows scheduled for April and May — in

Cleburne on April 30, Nobody Sings Sad Songs; on May 21, The Day the Music Died is playing in Granbury. If you are interested in attending any or all of these performances, come by the Citizens Center and sign up. The cost is $9 for Cleburne and $10 for Granbury.

Activities at the Citizens Center beginning on April 26 are: Wii games and exercise class on Monday; needlework, ceramics, low vision seminar and gospel music on Tuesday; April monthly birthday party on Wednesday; exercise and David’s grocery shopping on Thursday; bingo, quilting and Brookshire’s grocery shopping on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are “42” games, puzzles, quilting and visiting going on every day.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Jackson Cooper and Josephine Nystel.
