STAMFORD — Trannie Lavada Brooks, 101, passed away Saturday, March 19, in Abilene at Hendrick Medical Center.
Private graveside services were held Monday, March 21, at Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas, with family members and Pastor Jacob West officiating under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford.
Mrs. Brooks was born on Feb. 10, 1910, to the late E.N. and Sarah (Hatch) Wilson. She married Damon L. Brooks in Rule on Feb. 28, 1927, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Stamford.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Thomas E. Brooks; her parents; two sisters, Nannie Lou Miller and Vera Mae Denson; three brothers, Virgil Wilson, Dock Wilson and Rayford Wilson; a son-in-law, Jack Denson; and great-grandson, Garren Denson.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Denson, of Stamford; son, Nelson Brooks, and wife, Mary, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Connie Owen, of Blair, Okla.; and one daughter-in-law, Joy Brooks, of Glen Rose; four grandchildren, Jack G. Denson Jr. and wife, Jonita, of Abilene, Tommie Jo Stone of Abilene, Donna and husband, Mike Lewellen, of Glen Rose, Damon E. Brooks and wife, Reta, of Millsap and Carla and husband, Doug Salmi, of Little Rock, Ark.; 16 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Royal Estates and Hendrick Hospice Care for their wonderful care and support. A special thanks to all of the nurses on the Hendricks Hospice in-patient unit.
