Court finalizes decision on county longevity pay

By Hannah Barricks GLEN ROSE — Somervell County Judge Danny Chambers and the Commissioners Court effectively changed the payout system of the longevity program for full-time county employees during its recent meeting Monday at the County Complex. The payout for the program will now begin at five years instead of 10, and payments will be received in December so they can be enjoyed around Christmas.

Sen. Paul Bettencour sounds taxpayer alarm

Austin, TX – Senator Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) is sounding the Taxpayer Alarm that local school boards have scheduled tax ratification elections (TREs) that, if passed by the voters, will wipeout state mandated maintenance and operation (M&O) property tax relief in their districts. Taxpayers should be alerted that passage of a TRE means they could pay the same property tax rate as they did last year and not get any, ZERO, property tax relief as a result.
