City discusses additional crossing guards for student, pedestrian safety

GLEN ROSE — During a June meeting, the Glen Rose City Council discussed the viability and necessity of adding crossing guards at intersections near Glen Rose ISD campuses in response to increased foot traffic from new sidewalks connecting schools and neighborhoods ahead of the school year. Mayor Joe Boles led the discussion, with input from Mayor Pro Tem Stuart Mann and council members.

Glen Rose City Council renews transit system grant

GLEN ROSE — The Glen Rose City Council unanimously approved the renewal of the city's annual transit system grant during its regular meeting on June 24, continuing its support for the regional transportation service, The Transit System Inc., that assists residents with mobility across the area. Mayor Joe Boles presided over the meeting, with Mayor Pro Tem Stuart Mann and council members voting 5-0 in favor of contributing $15,000 toward the program.

Water and air permitting for power facilities raises residential concern

GLEN ROSE — Residents and local officials from Somervell and Hood counties have raised formal objections to permit requests for two power plants within their joint jurisdiction after learning about possible environmental and public health concerns that could impact their communities. In Hood County, grassroots organization Protect Hood County submitted a letter on June 21 to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), requesting a public meeting and contested case hearing regarding the proposed renewal of TPDES Permit No.

Senior Center's newest leaders need community support caring for elderly

GLEN ROSE — Community members gathered at Barnard's Mill and Art Museum on June 19 for the Glen Rose-Somervell County Chamber of Commerce's monthly luncheon, sponsored by Glen Rose Nursing and Rehab, to learn about the local Senior Center's work supporting aging residents. Kim McDonald and Juhree McCain, the new director of the Somervell County Committee on Aging, gave a presentation during lunch, describing the committee's mission and the services offered at the Senior Center.
