Governor orders expansion and acceleration of iWatch program

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today sent a letter directing Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steve McCraw, Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner Mike Morath, and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Commissioner Harrison Keller to expand and accelerate their efforts to promote the ability to report suspicious activity known to students, staff, and families through the iWatch-Texas reporting system.

Police: Tulsa gunman targeted surgeon he blamed for pain

Police say a man who blamed his surgeon for ongoing pain after a recent back surgery bought an AR-style rifle hours before opening fire at a Tulsa medical office, killing the surgeon and three other people before fatally shooting himself. Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin identified the shooter as 45-year-old Michael Louis. He says the gunman had recently undergone back surgery and had called a clinic repeatedly complaining of pain. Franklin says the doctor who performed the surgery, Dr. Preston Phillips, was killed Wednesday, along with Dr. Stephanie Husen, receptionist Amanda Glenn and patient William Love.

Unraveling what is going on in the world, part 1

What in the world is going on?! Instead of the usual drip, drip, drip of bad news we are experiencing a torrent of terrible news! Of course, the latest tragedy that has riveted our collective consciousness is the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, and before that we had the mass shooting in Buffalo, New York. There is also monkeypox, about which our President says, “Everybody should be concerned….” On another front, hundreds of infants across the country have been sickened due to a shortage of baby formula.

Camp Able equine therapy changes lives

BUFFALO GAP - On June 2nd, the 2nd annual Buffalo Run Adventure Run was held in Buffalo Gap. Vehicles of all sorts and sizes line up to get to the Four Corners monument in Arizona and back to Buffalo Gap while competing various challenges along the way. The goal of the race is to raise funds for Camp Able, a 501c3 charity that helps children and adults who have Autism, as well as helping veterans who suffer from PTSD. But, they do much more in helping everyone suffering from physical and mental conditions and handicaps. The work of Camp Able is near and dear to Cody Cox and Stever Schooley, the founders of the adventure race. The camp was the reason that they started this adventure run to begin with.

Honoring the fallen

GLEN ROSE - Memorial Day observances were held across the country on Monday. The day of remembrance is used to honor those who have fallen while serving our country. Glen Rose held some moving tributes to the fallen on Monday.
