Controlled burns resume in the city, county

GLEN ROSE — Smoke and ash have been more prevalent in the Glen Rose skyline this week as controlled burns continued in the area. Residents reported seeing ash falling early Wednesday as brush burned from multiple locations in the county. The Somervell County Fire Department and Fire Marshal are monitoring the fires but advise the community that while all city fires are permitted, there is no precedent for a fire permit in the county.

Celebrated ‘Dinosaur Man’ passes, Glen Rose pays respects

GLEN ROSE — Any person driving down Highway 67 toward Glen Rose within the last year has had a front-row seat to a growing display of life-sized dinosaurs in a fenced-in pasture to the right. The herd, provided by The Blue Butterfly: Art and Marketplace off Big Bend Trail, steadily expanded for months on owner Tony Cecil’s land with plans to add more species of dinosaur, as well as other prehistoric animals, when Cecil was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer before Thanksgiving.
