Tiger Tennis back in action

Cally Schlabs, seen here delivering a forehand shot in the Glen Rose Team Tennis season-opener Aug. 18 against Granbury at the Tiger Tennis Courts, and the Tigers were back in action Thursday at Ferris (results weren’t available at press time) with the idea of rebounding from a lopsided loss to the Pirates. Glen Rose will be back at home Sept. 1 when it plays host to Stephenville at 4 p.m. at the Tiger Tennis Courts.

Parents of Astros’ Alvarez come from Cuba to see 1st game

HOUSTON (AP) — When Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez stepped up to the plate in the first inning Tuesday night, he had three extra special guests cheering for him. Fresh after arriving from Cuba, his father, Agustín Eduardo Álvarez Salazar, tearyeyed mother Mailyn Cadogan Reyes and brother Yonder Alvarez Cadogan each proudly wore a No 44 Alvarez jersey as they gazed wide-eyed at the field, watching the Houston star play professionally for the first time.
