GLEN ROSE – As it turned out, Glen Rose did not need to take a shot in the fourth quarter to defeat the visiting Eagles of Rio Vista in a boys’ junior varsity tilt inside Tiger Arena on Tuesday.
Connor Rynders’ four points and three from Chance Hatfield matched Rio Vista in the first quarter to send the game into the second with the two teams tied at seven. But a 16-8-Glen Rose run over the middle two quarters gave the Runnin’ Tigers a lead they would not relinquish.
In fact, the six points by Caden White and two of Rynders’ game-high eight points were enough to send Glen Rose into the fourth quarter with two more points than Rio Vista would total by game’s end.
An eight-point lead for the junior varsity Runnin’ Tigers ballooned to 15 points over the first two minutes of the fourth quarter.
Connor Hansen’s eight-foot jumper with 4:12 on the clock increased the lead to 12 points and brought in five fresh legs off of Coach Erik Hartman’s bench.
A late Rio Vista three prevented the Runnin’ Tigers from doubling up the visiting Eagles as they went on the win by 16 points, 36-20.
In addition to Rynders, White finished the game with six points, Kelton Bernard and Connor Hansen each accounted for four points, Hatfield and Adrian Lewis finished with three points, while Austin Mullins, Jett Gould and Isaac Emerson each added two points, respectively.
The junior varsity and freshman Runnin’ Tigers will combine again on Friday, Feb. 12 at home against Keene. First time is slated for 5:30 p.m. and will follow the varsity game at 4 p.m.
